Chapter Twenty-One

Returning from his first client, he stopped at his apartment to change his clothes. Brennen found Jesse on the couch again as if he hadn’t moved an inch while watching the Star Wars Trilogy. He still was not studying or reading. For some reason, he looked thinner than he had. He wore those baggy sweat pants every day. Brennen noticed his chestnut hair had grown out a bit. He supposed Jesse would cut it down to a buzz again. Hope not. He looks cuter with his hair longer.

“Aren’t you working tonight?” Brennen buttoned his black shirt.

Jesse turned the air up, again. Brennen turned it down to prevent sweating while he dressed. Stop touching the air. He’s wearing sweats. Why is he always so cold? Something is so off about Jesse. I can’t pinpoint it.

“No, I had two for tonight and both cancelled.” Jesse drained his beer.

“Cancelled? Who the hell cancels a hot stud like you, Jesse?” He knotted his white tie around his neck the way Dmitri had taught him. All day, he thought about his favorite client, the lawyer in Santa Monica, their dinner talk and the crazy sex afterwards.

He slipped into the black Dockers that called attention to his tight butt. As he was zipping up, he raised his eyes to find Jesse checking him. He had the same colored eyes as Bella.

“I think Dmitri is going to fire me soon.” Jesse rolled up his sweatshirt as if he was too warm.

“Did he say something to you?”

“He said I needed to improve or I’m out. Some clients complained.”

“Want me to talk to Dmitri?”

“And when has Dmitri ever listened to you?”

“He does lots of times.” A sharp pain, like an icicle, lodged in his stomach. I shouldn’t have to explain Dmitri. It’s none of his damn business.

“What are you doing with that old married man?”

“I hate that he’s married. And I try hard not to think about them fucking. The problem is that I love him. He’s everything to me, and he’s not that fucking old.”

“If you love him, then tell him you won’t let him fuck you until he gets rid of his wife.”

“Are we talking about my Dmitri? Do you honestly think I would still be standing if I told him that?”

Brennen realized then that Jesse hated Dmitri. “Probably not. But maybe you could move on if he beat the shit out of you. And then you would know what he really thinks of you.”

“I know he loves me and Nika is for show.”

“You know what I think?”

“I’m sure you’re going to tell me.”

“I think he sees you as a son more than a lover. That’s how he treats you.”

“That’s because you just don’t understand BDSM relationships. I am not giving up on him.”

“Tons of girls and guys want you, but you are blind to everyone around you because of Dmitri.”

“Thanks, Jesse.” He blushed. “I met a girl today at school.”

“No way.” Jesse’s eyes lit up with the mention of a girl.

“Yes, and she’s hot for a girl,” Brennen said.
